FAKE ART: Artist S H Raza says all works at Dhoomimal art gallery were fake except one or two.
New Delhi: Artist S H Raza confirmed on that all the works shown at the Dhoomimal art gallery on Saturday night are fake except one or two.
The Paris based artist was in the capital to open the show at Dhoomimal which displays works of Raza from the 1930s and 40s period.
The whole show has now been pulled down. The 86 year old artist is furious with this blatant act by one of the oldest and most respected galleries in the country.
The problem of fakes is the last thing the Indian art market needs to face in the current slowdown.

this shows the alacrity and that money supercedes everything else in the art market!
a telling blow to a market where in the credibility and questionable practices have already put the powers to be in indian art world under a dark cloud!
god save this country and it's art-mart!

It is shameful. To make quick money the old and reputed galleries and art dealers try to sell fake paintings.

I wouldnt believe everything that Mr. Raza says. He has earlier disclaimed his work and when sufficient proof was given to him his retort was that 'this is not Raza the artist but Raza the human being who worked for a living!' i also know that a reputed gallery would not only know the quality of work they deal in but also if they called him there they wouldnt mess with the works. There was a time when these artists painted for sustanence and did works which they might not be proud of but to discredit people and organisations who have sustained them and supported them to become icons today should not be thus discredited. i dont know who is right or wrong in this but if i were Mr. Raza and i was right then i would do it quietly for a friend and not admist fanfare and press! its a shame what the world has come to!!
It's Raza @ fault and not Dhoomimal!
From a Trusted Source and Art Expert:
Raza disowns his early works most of the time.
when caught with one of the clients he turned around and said this is not Raza the artist!
This is becoz those works are not what he is popularly known for and also he is embarassed of those works.
Which is the same that happens with poor dhoomimal people.
He is pretty much of a 'difficult'artist who creates a lot of chaos in the field.
I have proof of what i am saying so please dont write such things becoz its very important that artists too behave themselves.
It's so easy to believe the artist and not the dealer - when its actually the dealer who is suffering in some of this cases - the same dealers who bloody supported them when they were nothing.
Raza is not the only one to do this - F N Souza was famous for it, so is Ram kumar and Akbar padamsee, Manjit and Anjolie.
Get the facts right people!
